Meningitis Awareness

Meningitis Awareness day is April 24th.

What does meningitis mean to you? Honestly until about 4 years ago it didn't mean much to me. I can't say that I knew the symptoms or really what happened when someone got it. I associated it with a stiff neck, an infection in your spinal fluid and I knew you had to have a spinal tap to confirm it. I wasn't even aware that there were different kinds. 4 years ago in 2007 I met Lacey and meningitis came to mean something very different to me. Meningitis came to mean losing a child you love more than the whole world within a day. Meningitis became synonymous with Landan in my life.

Landan Harris was born on August 17TH, 2003 and at age 3 he contracted meningoccocal meningitis. He left this world on November 16th, 2006 after fighting this preventable disease for 23 hours.

Landan's mom, Lacey, is an amazing person. She loves her kids in a kind of way that you can't stop from touching your heart. Her kids become your kids after reading about them and you can feel her love for them in everything she writes.

Today I ask ALL of you to read about meningitis. Become familiar with the symptoms, the causes, the types, and the fact that there is a vaccine available that our children are not given until age 11. This disease is DEADLY. Even children who survive from it are maimed for life.

On April 24th get out your burgandy and support this cause. Pass the link on to your friends and make a difference. Let's keep our children safe. NO mother should ever have to lose her child to a disease that we can stop.

Sending all my love today and everyday to Lacey, Angel Landan, Little Layne, and the great husband and father who stands behind them all Andy.

Handspun amazingness!

I have said before how impressed I am by my photographer. I truly love everything she does. She did these product shots for me of my new handspun hats and even though they are very simple I love how they turned out. Handspun yarn is so amazing. It is nothing like regular yarn at all. The texture is such a delight to the senses. It's so hard to sell hats that are so pleasing to the eye and the touch as well. I just want to keep them alllll. My photographer told me I can't do this, but maybe you guys could talk to her..... hehe. (If you are in the Idaho area and need great photos check her out. Her link is to the ----->)

Fun Fact Friday

A comet's tail always points away from the sun.

Now to me this only makes sense? If there is something that could "burn your tail off" it would only make sense to point your tail away- am I correct? Now sometimes their are other situations I have heard of like "tails being burned off" by eating... say jalapenos then you are just screwed. LOL ;)

Two Cents Tuesday

It is Tuesday and time for my two cents. However, instead of doing my usual pet peeve I want to offer my 2 cents about a more important issue today. April is Child Abuse Awareness/Prevention Month and today this horrifying story came to my email about an amazing child who's life was cut short by a violent offender. This should *NEVER* happen on this planet at all, let alone in our country. Please think about who you leave your kids with. I know none of us can ever be sure that nothing bad will happen, but just try to double check in your mind if you really feel you would trust the person watching your child with your very life. That may seem extreme, but truly that is what it boils down to in cases like this. Sometimes hiring a babysitter seems so trivial, when we are in fact trusting them with the thing we hold most dear, the one thing we could never live without. This little man's story breaks my heart. He was born at only 3 lbs 6 oz and 14 inches long. He fought bravely for his life only to have it snatched away by an animal his mommy trusted to watch him.

Please join his mom's page in support of Haydon and help fight for legislation to implement stiff and unbending punishment for those who harm our kids. Hug your babies tight. One child is everyone's child.

Any "person" who harms a child should never see the light of day again.

God Bless you Haydon- fly high with the ^i^ angels.

Update Monday

Today was the book fair at school. I love it that my kids get exciting about reading. We spent about 45 mintues there while they window shopped. I can't imagine how long they might spend in Barnes and Noble. LOL I gave them both $20 to spend. My 2nd son spent only $9.45 and my older son spent $19.88! They are so different. I scored a pug bookmark from the older one. I am actually really excited about it because I love my pug more than I can say.

It is horribly rainy here today, so at least baseball was cancelled. Tomorrow my 3rd son has his kindergarten screening. I am really nervous about that and crossing my finger, toes and praying that he does well. I think preschool is so important and he missed out on that due to a long waiting list. I am going to try my best to make sure that my baby gets in to a preschool to give him a leg up.

I am working on some hats that I am really exciting about this week. This is my first handspun creation. I think it turned out so beautifully.

How's everyone else doing?

Fun Fact Friday.

Pollsters say that 40 percent of dog and cat owners carry pictures of the pets in their wallets.

I admit my dog has had professional photos taken before. :)
